Darren Cooper.

Darren is a Wiradjuri man currently living in West Wyalong, New South Wales. In 2003 Darren opened his Redfern Art Studio.

In 2006 his artistic contributions and involvement within the Redfern communities was acknowledged by the Koori Mail and the National newspapers.

2007 was a busy time as he was commissioned for artwork highlighting the Beyond Blue agency in a national publication initiative, he also met Ken Done (a great Australian artist/designer) who took on his mentorship for the commercialisation of Darren’s own artwork.

Then in November he closed the doors of his Redfern Studio in Sydney making himself available to the general public and government agencies as a free lance artists.

In 2008, Darren accepted a scholarship to study for a Visual Arts Degree at Deakin University in Geelong, Victoria where he was invited to show his artwork along with higher level students in a graduation day exhibition in 2009.

In a letter in 2004, Jeff McMullen, the then Director of the Ian Thorpe Fountain for Youth Trust commended Darren for his contribution of “murals on George Street, Redfern as these have become an important place for mentoring young inner-city Aboriginal artists”. He also mentioned his contribution to an exhibition in Wattens, Austria, saying “Darren Cooper’s multi-media creation put the colours and landscapes of NSW onto the walls of the Swarovski Crystal Exhition, seen by hundreds of thousands of Europeans”.
